Spain are through, Uruguay are out.

The pitch was packed with star power, but not much great football. Spain beat Uruguay 1-0 in a physical, scrappy match filled with fouls and interruptions. It was far from their best performance, but they did enough to book their place in the Round of 32.

For Uruguay, it was a World Cup to forget. Marcelo Bielsa’s experiment never came together, and La Celeste crash out in the group stage after one of the country’s most disappointing World Cup campaigns.

After this match, both Uruguay and Guadalajara Stadium are out of the tournament.

Spain still have plenty to improve, but they keep moving forward.
